“Everyday Use” Before You Read: Traditions and Heirlooms

My family has a heirloom that is handed to the younger generation. It has been passed down since it was my older sister. It is a string that is blessed and it has written words written in symbols; that is wrap around a metal plate. It is hard to explain, I only know the name of it in Khmer. I would pass it down to my daughter next and make sure she wears it for a couple of years. The string symbolises protection, health, and good luck. Girls wear it around our lower waist and guys usually wear it around the middle of their stomach.
